Our third stop along Mexico's Gulf Route brought us to the lush Yucatan state and the small port town of Progreso. Progreso
boasts the world's longest pier at 5 miles long! An hour away is the Yucatan's capital city of Merida. Merida was settled in
1542 and is known as the "White City" because of its light colored buildings. The city is home to hundreds of years of history
with one of the most well preserved zocalos in Mexico and the first Cathedral built inland in the Americas. With over 2,040 Mayan
sites in the Yucatan, there are 20 world-class excavated archeological wonders to explore, including the legendary
Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and Dzibilchaltun.
