Whale Watching in Icy Strait

After two days and two nights of cruising across a very 'rough' Gulf of Alaska, we anchored in the calm waters of Icy Straits. During our passage we encountered up to 47 kt. winds and 30 foot seas. This translates to a Force 9 on the Beaufort Wind Scale (See: Beaufort Scale). Walking to and from the dining room was a true effort.

During the late afternoon we watched numerous whales breaching. You have to look closely at following photos, but considering that we are up high on the seventh deck of the ship, I was surprised I could capture the whales at all.
