Bob's Garden Railway

PLAN 4

Railroad Demolition Begins

After living in our home for over 44 years, PG&E has decided to enforce their easement rights they legally have on our parcel. There is a 36 inch natural gas pipe traversing our back yard, and now they say they need to see the pipeline area when they do a survey from the air, even though walk the area twice a year with a 'gas sniffer'. They have cut down three of our mature trees which were less than 12 feet from the center of the pipeline, two of which have been there since we moved in. My neighbor lost a tree because its canopy encroached over the pipeline zone (or could it have been its morning shadow?).

Here is a picture a beautiful loquat tree I planted from a seed over 40 years ago.

In addition to the trees, I built my garden railway that encroached into the pipeline zone. They said it also had to be demolished. The following photos chronicle the demise of 10 years of fun labor. My brother and son came down to dismantle the train equipment and storage area.

Before the demolition of the railway began, we managed to take a few videos of my trains running one last time. It was truly a bitter-sweet moment.
