ALASKA 2012 |
Welcome to our 14-day R/T cruise out of Seattle. This has been quite an adventure. We were supposed to go to Homer, Kodiak, and Hubbard Glacier after leaving Anchorage, but the captain came on the intercom to tell us there had been a change in plans. There was a horrible storm brewing in the Pacific that would make the ports of Homer and Kodiak impossible and that he wanted to try to 'out run' the storm the best he could. We had quite a two-day ride across the Gulf of Alaska! The cabin stewards came in to 'button down the hatches' in each cabin, and all doors out to the Promenade Deck were locked. We had up to 47 kt, winds hitting the starboard side of the ship for most of the two-day crossing. There were two Princess ships 'port bound' in Seward due to 30 foot seas. Our itinerary was then changed to go to Skagway, but again the winds were too strong that the Captain feared he would not be able to dock. One of the Princess ships was supposed to go into Glacier Bay, so we were able to take their slot as Glacier Bay was not on our itinerary. The following photos are just a few of the highlights of our 2012 journey. Welcome aboard the ms Amsterdam! |
